Desktop and Window Appearance in Vista

As subtle as the desktop and window appearance may originally seem, it can have an impact on your attitude and thought process while working hour upon hour on ur trusty puter.

Here are some basics for accessing Vista's desktop and window appearance options:
  • Minimize all your windows by holding down the windows key on your keyboard and the letter M at the same time, or else, using the show desktop icon on your taskbar.
  • Right-click on any portion of your desktop that doesn't have icons and select Personalize from the menu.
  • Select either Window Color and Appearance or Desktop Background.
For Window Color and Appearance:
  • Select one of the already existing 8 colors, or click on the Show Color Mixer option to play around and create your own
  • Select the color intensity to focus more on the color and less on the transparency, or vice versa
  • Click ok
For Desktop Background:
  • The first portion of the window entails the selection of the graphic you will use for your desktop background
  • The drop-down menu will provide you a number of locations from which you can pull the graphic. Windows wallpapers has some excellent options, or you can use your own BMP or JPG file
  • The second portion of the window entails the selection of size and appearance of the graphic you're using for your background
  • Select whether you want the image to fit the screen, be tiled, or be centered (letterbox style sometimes depending on your screen size).
  • Click ok
An alternative way to quickly save a file as your desktop background, is to surf online for great images, such as by using images.google.com (show options/large) and save them as your desktop.
  • When you find an image to your liking, right click on it and select "set as desktop background"
  • Some webmasters turn this option off when the image is copyright protected
  • Some images won't have the desktop background option so you'll have to save them onto your puter: right click and save as
  • I prefer to convert all desktop images to bmp using Microsoft Office Picture Manager/Export/BMP... cause I'm old skool like that ;)

KITT Screensaver and Wallpaper

For some reason, last week, I had a hankering for some KITT acroutements for my work PC.

Must have been another one of those spontaneous urges to de-Microsoftize it and give it that personality je ne sais quois, I guess.

So as a result, I located what I considered a rocking good wallpaper image on Google Images. The wallpaper is actually a tasteful and cool rendered drawing someone created. I also was able to locate and download an awesome KITT screensaver, featuring the famed red hovering light and whoom-whoom sound f/x. My coworkers are slightly puzzled at the sound, since it could resemble an ultrasound of a heart beating ^_^; but it's not!

Well, my friends, needless to say, ever since these slight tweaks to my work PC, I'm in geeky KITT heaven. And although I forgot to download said accroutements, over the weekend, onto my personal laptop at home, I am most certainly on my way to do so this week.

By the way, Kitt was my first car crush *blushes* ^_^ It must have been that whispery tone of voice. *sigh*

Even though I had been watching Dukes of Hazzard well before KITT ever came on the TV, I never really liked the General Lee as much--preferring instead Daisy and her white topless Jeep Wrangler.

Welcome and Introduction

Greetings

I've decided to begin my third blog (first is here, second is here), JeDa's Interwebs Blog, which will feature an aggregation of information regarding web design and programming, related book reviews, and links and other resources that I run into through my multiple news and information resources. Mind you I'm experienced in social networking/media and have a passion for the Interwebs, but my programming/web design skills are quite sad, if existent at all, in reality. However, this will be remedied, and this blog is part of my master plan. Mwahahaha ^_^

I will begin populating this blog through re-posting web design, social media, and Internet-related information from my personal blog. I believe the information I've posted over there is still timely and beneficial, and thus am moving ahead with it... especially since it's the perfect, lazy way to populate content for now, until I get my bearings and plan out which resources and postings I want to develop here for you.

I am planning on refreshing or re-learning (actually) web design and related skillsets in order to fulfill one of my bucket list items that began in 1998.

Welcome and I hope you enjoy your stay sufficiently to come back again and again.

^_^
